My Take on the Cable Cast-on

There are a lot of different cast-on methods out there but I have to admit that the cable cast-on is my all time favorite. I use it about 95% of the time and I loooove the way it looks. Recently, I happened to watch a video of someone performing this technique (sorry, I don't remember … Continue reading My Take on the Cable Cast-on →

Provisional cast-on

A cast-on edge is meant to be a permanent foundation to your knit. There are various methods depending on how you want it to look and how stretchy you want it to be. But...sometimes you don't want that foundation to be so permanent. You want to be able to cast on and knit, of course, … Continue reading Provisional cast-on →

A little about me:

I’m a long-time knitter who learned from my mom when I was about 5. My very first project was a little scarf for my teddy bear and I remember it well. Wish I still had it! I watched my mom knit my entire life and now it’s a big part of my life, too. Early on, I realized that I really enjoyed customizing my knits and I rapidly graduated to designing my own patterns. With some encouragement from knitting friends, I started publishing them on Ravelry and haven’t looked back since. Most recently, one of my designs was chosen for Sock Madness (an international speed knitting contest hosted on Ravelry). It was amazing to see folks from all over the world knitting up my design. So as you can see, I love sharing my passion with others. Since I teach biology and botany at the university level, its natural that I teach knitting and knitting techniques as well. You’ll see a lot of botanical inspiration in my knits, as well as ethnic and traditional designs. I love working out new challenging ways to do things and really stretch the constraints of what you can do with a hand knit design (translation: fun for expert knitters). And then I usually like to turn around and design an easy but elegant knit that is beginner friendly. Besides knitting and adding to my yarn stash (can you say S.A.B.L.E.?), I enjoy collecting knitting books & patterns, quilting, painting and drawing. Join me as I knit and muse and review and have fun in this ancient craft.
